Rigging Fundamentals

Course Information

The 40 hour Rigging Fundamentals program will allow you to learn the basics of rigging loads for hoisting operations.  You will familiarize yourself with the different types of slings and the configurations used while rigging loads.  You will master the different knots that are commonly used by riggers.  You will learn how to properly use and inspect all rigging hardware such as slings, hooks, shackles, etc.  The course will also provide you with the knowledge to determine the weights of unknown loads and you will be able to quickly and accurately identify the hardware needed to properly and safely rig the load.  Finally, you will learn important safety information that is essential to all crane and rigging operations such as power line safety and critical lifts.  The learning experience will be based on classroom discussion and hands-on applications that will serve as the foundation for your career in the crane industry.

Instructors

All of CSAA’s instructors are certified by NCCCO.  They bring in many years of practical real-world experience that will enhance the learning experience.  Since Crane Safety Associates keep the class size to a maximum of 15 students, each student will have ample time to spend with the instructor for one-on-one training.

Course Text

The Rigging Fundamentals course will utilize Crane Safety Associates’ recently updated “Rigging Fundamentals” textbook.  This is the same material CSAA uses for CCO prep courses but will be delivered at a slower pace so that students with little or no experience will have time to adjust and fully understand each topic that is covered.

Materials

In addition to the course textbook, the course will be delivered using a PowerPoint and open discussion format.  CSAA will also utilize actual rigging hardware so that students will have the opportunity to rig loads and become familiar with the inspection process throughout the duration of the program.

Course Completion

Upon completion of the rigging program and its corresponding exams, students will receive a certificate of completion and will be recognized as a qualified rigger.  Also, with passing scores on the NCCCO written and practical exams, students will be certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators as a certified rigger.
