Mobile Crane Operator Fixed Cab

Course Information

The 40 hour Mobile Crane Operator Fixed Cab program will allow you to learn the basics of safe operation.  You will familiarize yourself with the crane’s functions and controls.  You will learn how to properly assess a job site and safely set up your crane.  The program will teach you how to correctly interpret and use load charts to determine the capacity of your crane while operating in different configurations.  You will learn the pre-inspection process that is essential to safe operation.  You will also become familiar with the signals used to direct the crane’s movements.  Finally, you will learn important safety information that is essential to all crane operations such as power line safety and critical lifts.  The learning experience will be based on classroom discussion and hands-on applications that will serve as the foundation for your career in the crane industry.

Instructors

All of CSAA’s instructors are certified by NCCCO.  They bring in many years of practical real-world experience that will enhance the learning experience.  Since Crane Safety Associates keep the class size to a maximum of 10 students, each student will have ample time to spend with the instructor for one-on-one training.

Course Text

The Mobile Crane Operator Fixed Cab program will utilize Crane Safety Associates’ recently updated “Boom Truck Operator” textbook and its corresponding load charts.  In addition, CSAA will use the CCO prep textbook to cover additional information that is needed to successfully pass the NCCCO written examination.  This is the same material CSAA uses for CCO prep courses but will be delivered at a slower pace so that students with little or no experience will have time to adjust and fully understand each topic that is covered.

Materials

In addition to the course textbook, the course will be delivered using a PowerPoint and open discussion format.  CSAA will also utilize an actual boom truck so that students will have the opportunity to handle loads and become familiar with the boom truck’s operation throughout the duration of the program.

Course Completion

Upon completion of the fixed cab program and its corresponding exams, students will receive a 40 hour certificate of completion and a qualification card that can be used for crane operations in the general industry sector.  Also, with passing scores on the NCCCO written and practical exams, students will be certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators as a certified mobile crane operator for fixed cabs which is valid for both construction and general industry.
